"By the end of the visit, I did not want her to leave"

Louise from Abingdon was struggling with her young son's eating and behavioural challenges, so she turned to Katherine for personalised parenting support that boosted her confidence, improved family dynamics, and created a calmer, happier home.

“It has now been six months since Katherine’s visit, and she has transformed our household.“

– Louise

I had looked at Katherine’s website several times before finally finding the courage to contact her. We had an initial phone conversation, which immediately put me at ease. That is not to say I was not incredibly nervous before she actually came to stay with me.

I got in touch because my son’s eating habits had become extremely difficult. He was 2 years and 9 months old, increasingly fussy, and I simply did not know where to turn. I had tried everything, and mealtimes were becoming incredibly stressful. I felt overwhelmed, exhausted, guilty, embarrassed and alone—you name it, I felt it!

When Katherine arrived, she observed me with my son. Once he was in bed, she explained that food itself was not the real issue—it was simply how the underlying problem was showing up. The root cause was control and I was over-parenting whilst also trying to hold down two jobs and run a home. I had no life of my own anymore.

The next day we went right back to basics, starting with dressing and focusing on my tone of voice and the way I gave instructions.

Katherine supported me every step of the way—showing me what to say, how to respond, and, most importantly, how to stay consistent and remain ‘amber’. It was incredibly hard, but the benefits were starting to show already in such a short time. My son began listening, engaging, dressing and eating new foods without fuss. We changed habits that were affecting us both. She challenged me to reflect deeply and inspired me to do better.

By the end of the visit, I did not want her to leave. I was so proud of the progress made and there was no going back. A giant weight had been lifted and I was not alone anymore.

The work continued after Katherine had gone. At first, I felt embarrassed about reaching out, but she always replied promptly to my texts, and we had several follow-up conversations whenever an issue came up.

About six weeks after the visit, I began to potty training my son, and Katherine supported me throughout that process as well.

Katherine has also helped me with challenges involving my older teenage son too.

It has now been six months since Katherine’s visit, and she has transformed our household. We are now an ‘amber’ household, and many of the issues we first worked on; such as dressing and bedtime, have improved enormously. Food is much better too. We are still working through some things, but Katherine is always there when I need her.

I have so much more confidence in myself now, and we are doing well as a family. Our home feels calmer, more positive and more content, and I now make sure to take time for myself too. I feel better to manage the difficult moments and when this situation arises, I can still hear Katherine’s voice guiding me on what to do.

I am incredibly grateful for what Katherine has done for my family and for me. What she teaches is a truly valuable approach to parenting, and I believe every parent would benefit from learning this and listening to what she says, so they too can raise confident engaged children who grow into confident adults.
